In what comes as a shocking sight, railway tracks are being used by local residents in suburban pockets to dry clothes. The shocking practice has been observed under the Eastern Railway jurisdiction wherein individuals residing in the suburban areas were seen placing their clothes on the railway lines for drying.

The observation has brought the railways into action. According to the ER, the practice is not only perilous but may result in fatal consequences at any given moment. “”As a local train can cover approximately 10 meters per second, presenting a substantial risk to individuals involved in such activities,” said the ER office today.

Avoiding this behaviour is crucial, as it could lead to severe harm. Moreover, spreading clothes on the tracks can cause mechanical issues in the lower part of the train, potentially causing accidents and affecting a large number of people simultaneously. Therefore, it is advised to refrain from engaging in such activities for the greater safety of all, added the zonal railway.

Notably, in yet another similar activity, vendors were seen using fire for cooking at railway premises, which is strictly prohibited. The zonal railway has urged the citizens not to follow such activities to prevent any untoward incident in the railway premises
