The Indian team has registered a historic performance and brought glory to the nation on the global stage during the inaugural World Yogasana Championship, recently held at the EKA Arena in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad.
Nearly 600 athletes from as many as 78 countries participated in the competition. In this fiercely contested event, India’s 122-member team demonstrated unprecedented excellence by securing a total of 114 medals, comprising 102 gold, nine silver, and three bronze medals.

The championship was inaugurated in the presence of Baba Ramdev Maharaj, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Sadhvi Devpriya and several other dignitaries.

During the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the athletes and the nation via video conferencing, encouraging them to embrace yoga.
Historic performance by Acharyakulam athletes
Representing the Indian team at the international level, talented athletes from ‘Acharyakulam’ — an institution run by Patanjali Yogpeeth —scripted a golden chapter in history. In competitions held across various age categories, the athletes left both the audience and the judges spellbound by displaying technical proficiency, balance, and remarkable flexibility.
Atharv Singh Negi (Sub-Junior category) brought pride to the country by winning two gold medals through his magnificent performances in the Hand Balancing and Traditional Yogasana group events.
Alka Sharma (Girls’ category) delivered an outstanding performance in her category and clinched the gold medal. Also, Yati Yashvi (Junior Girls’ category) secured the gold medal through technical superiority.
Hard-work of mentors
The dedication, discipline, and relentless hard work of coaches associated with Acharyakulam, the Haridwar Yogasana Association, and Patanjali Yogpeeth played a pivotal role in this incredible success achieved by the athletes.
On this proud achievement for Acharyakulam, the school’s Vice Chairperson Dr. Ritambhara, Principal Swati Munshi, Vice Principal Tapas Kumar Bera, Coordinator Deepa Devi, Head of Sports Department Amit Dani, and all the teachers extended their heartfelt congratulations to the students and coaches. The management expressed hope that in the future too the institute’s students would continue to excel on national and international platforms, bringing glory to India, Uttarakhand, and Acharyakulam.
“Yogasana is not merely a sport but the foundation of a healthy, balanced, and disciplined life; it paves the way for the physical, mental, and spiritual development of humanity. These talented students of Acharyakulam will play a significant role in establishing India as a ‘Vishwa Guru’ (global leader) in the field of Yoga in the future,” Baba Ramdev said.
Acharya Balkrishna noted that all the winning athletes deserve congratulations.
