Rs 1.77 crore found in Bengal school, condom packet spotted in ‘sick room’

After the recent discovery of termite-infested cash found at Kolkata’s Surendranath College, a massive pile of cash was found in a school at Kanchrapara in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.

Reports indicate that police personnel from the Bizpur station recovered around Rs 1.77 crore from a Kanchrapara Harnett English Medium School on Wednesday night. Along with this, a condom packet was also found from an almirah in the school’s sick room.

The police conducted the raid after receiving information from its secret sources. Initially, eight bundles of cash were recovered from one of the rooms at the second floor of the school building. After these notes were counted, the total amounted to Rs 35 lakh, which prompted the police to bring in three note counting machines to the spot. On Thursday morning, the total recovery from that room amounted to Rs 1.77 crore.

The police have detained the school’s cashier Avik Nath and the assistant accountant Sayan Ghosh. The school principal has demanded a through investigation into the incident.

Acting Principal Bikash Chandra Pal named four accused in his complaint- Kamal Adhikary, Goutam Ghosh Dastidar, Abhik Kumar Nag and Sayan Pal, ANI reported.

He has also informed that school admissions was on, and the accounts department was responsible for depositing the cash payments at the bank. The principal has claimed that he was not aware about why the cash was kept inside the room.

The recovery comes after bundles of termite infested Rs 100 and Rs 500 notes were found stached in suitcases at Surendranath College in Kolkata. Moreover, weapons including six swords and a knife were also found locked inside a room in the college.
