In a commendable gesture reflecting commitment to sustainable practices and fiscal prudence, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) chairman Keshav Chandra on Tuesday chose to travel by Delhi Metro while commuting to office Palika Kendra in New Delhi.

Responding to the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for adopting austerity measures and reducing fuel consumption, the NDMC chairman, with his colleagues and senior officers, undertook his journey from Lok Kalyan Marg Metro Station to Rajiv Chowk Metro Station via the Metro network and further took the Electric Auto to reach the Office.

This initiative underscores the NDMC’s commitment to promoting environmentally responsible practices, reducing carbon footprint and encouraging the use of public transport among citizens and officials alike.

By setting an example, Chandra aims to inspire a collective shift towards sustainable urban mobility and efficient resource utilisation.

On the occasion, Chandra said inspired by the nationwide appeal of the Prime Minister towards fuel conservation, energy efficiency and promotion of clean, green and sustainable transportation, the NDMC has launched several major green mobility initiatives to encourage eco-friendly transportation in New Delhi as Heart of the national capital.

He informed that the NDMC has decided to provide a special 50 per cent concession in parking charges for Electric Vehicles (EVs) at all notified parking sites operated by the NDMC, as compared to parking charges applicable for conventional petrol and diesel vehicles of the same category.

The concession in parking charges for Electric Vehicles is already being implemented from May 18 and will remain operational until further orders, Chandra added.

He stated that this decision is a significant step towards realising the vision of “Green Mobility” and “Sustainable Urban Transport”.

Chandra said the initiative would contribute towards fuel conservation, reduction in pollution and creation of a cleaner and greener environment in the Capital city.
