Five dead, owner arrested in Dewas blast case: CM Mohan Yadav flies in from Delhi, visits injured through the night

The number of fatalities in the firecracker factory explosion in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh has climbed to five, after two critically injured workers died during treatment late Thursday night. Officials confirmed the deaths on Friday, noting that the two workers had sustained severe burn injuries in the blast and could not be saved despite medical intervention.

Chief Minister cuts Delhi visit short, rushes to hospitals

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav cancelled his scheduled engagements in New Delhi upon receiving word of the incident and travelled directly to Indore late Thursday night. He first went to Choithram Hospital, where he spoke with workers injured in the blast and gave instructions to the attending medical staff regarding their care. He subsequently visited MY Hospital to check on other admitted patients.

Speaking to victims and their families at the hospitals, the Chief Minister said the state government was committed to providing every possible assistance to those affected. He directed medical officials to ensure that all injured persons receive full and appropriate treatment.

Factory sealed; NSA invoked against owner

Authorities have sealed the factory premises. The National Security Act has been invoked against owner Anil Malviya, who is now in custody. Police are additionally preparing cases against four individuals, including three contractors linked to the factory, for alleged violations of the Explosives Rules related to safety compliance.

Magisterial inquiry ordered
Ujjain Divisional Commissioner Ashish Singh has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The inquiry will focus on establishing the precise cause of the explosion, assessing whether the premises complied with the Explosives Rules and the National Building Code-2016, and reviewing the licences granted to operate the factory.

Deputy CM reviews relief at blast site

On Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, who also holds charge of the district, visited the explosion site and reviewed ongoing relief operations with officials. He also met workers admitted to Dewas District Hospital and Amaltas Hospital.

Devda assured families that the state stood firmly with them and that strict action would follow against anyone found responsible for negligence once the investigation concludes.
