A cultural event in Bihar’s Gopalganj district has turned into a legal and political controversy after police registered an FIR against nine people, including Mokama MLA Anant Singh and Bhojpuri singer Gunjan Singh. The case is linked to allegations of weapons being displayed and obscene performances during a public celebration. Anant Singh, however, has rejected all accusations and called them baseless.
The FIR was filed after videos from the event went viral on social media, triggering administrative action and public debate.

MLA Anant Singh rejects allegations
Anant Singh said he was only present at the event and had no role in any unlawful activity. He denied being connected to any person seen carrying weapons during the function. He also said that he did not break any law or take part in any inappropriate behaviour.
Singh questioned the police presence at the venue, asking why officers did not stop anything illegal if it was actually happening.
According to him, if there were any restrictions, the administration should have informed him in advance. He also claimed that his name was wrongly included in the case without proper reason.
Cultural event turns into controversy
The incident took place during an Upanayan Sanskar ceremony held on May 2 in Semrao village, which falls under Mirganj police station limits in Gopalganj district. The event was organised by local Mukhiya Guddu Rai for his son and included large-scale celebrations with Bhojpuri performances.
According to police reports, videos from the event showed people allegedly brandishing weapons while dancing. Some clips also showed female performers dancing on stage, and currency notes being thrown at them during the programme.
Police investigation and FIR details
After the videos surfaced, Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Vinay Tiwari ordered an investigation. The inquiry was carried out by Hathua SDPO Anand Mohan Gupta. Based on the findings, police registered an FIR at Mirganj police station.
The FIR names several individuals, including organisers Guddu Rai, Utsav Rai, Priyanshu Kumar, Tishu Rai, Saurav Kumar Rai, Vishal Rai, Sunil Yadav, along with Gunjan Singh and Anant Singh. It also includes several unidentified persons.
Police stated that both licensed and illegal weapons were allegedly displayed openly during the event, creating fear and disturbing public order. The case has been filed under sections of the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Authorities also said the viral videos were verified and found credible before legal action was taken. The investigation is still ongoing.
Political reactions add pressure
The incident has also triggered political reactions in the state. Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, criticised the state government over the matter.
She raised concerns about law and order and questioned how such incidents involving alleged weapons display and obscenity could take place at a public event. She also highlighted issues related to women’s dignity, referring to the performances shown in the viral clips.
