India’s most feared and favoured sports utility vehicle (SUV) Mahindra’s Thar is about to debut in its electric avatar soon. The all-electric iteration of the popular off-roader—christened as Thar.e— is a significant cornerstone of Mahindra’s BEV push, blending ZEV tech with “go anywhere” off-roading capabilities.
According to several reports, the vehicle is expected to be launched in August 2026, with a price tag of between 20 and 25 lakh. The design is expected to be revolutionary, though not as quirky as the rest of Mahindra’s e-vehicle lineup, such as XEV and BE series.

The design will be quite a futuristic and boxy one, with an electric dual motor all-wheel drive set up to give it true-blue off-road capabilities.
Thar.e would have the usual high ground clearance and will be built on the dedicated INGLO-P1 platform.
INGLO-P1 is a dedicated e-vehicle skateboard platform and is, as such, “born electric”. For taking Thar.e’s off-road capabilities to another level, this platform is made of high-strength Boron steel and gives the vehicle way more ruggedness compared to the present generation Thar. The new platform also imparts the Thar.e will better approach and departure angles.
Reports suggest that the bonnet of the vehicle will be perceptibly smaller to improve road visibility, and the interior will be redesigned entirely to sport a bigger infotainment cluster and a large touchscreen. The headlights, reports suggest, would be prominently square.
The battery pack, though not announced hitherto, would range between 60kWh and 80kWh for a decent range. Though the ICE version of Thar sports three doors, the Thar.e is expected to have five doors for improved practicality that the Roxx version carries in the ICE iteration of Thar. Thar.e is also expected to have high-tech state-of-the-art features, such as cell-to-pack technology, 5G connectivity and over-the-air (OTA) updates.
