Senior leaders of the Congress on Sunday extended greetings to the people of Bihar on the occasion of Bihar Day, praising the state’s rich legacy of knowledge, culture and its role in shaping India’s democratic traditions.

‎Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in a post on social media platform X, described Bihar as “the sacred land of democracy” and a symbol of “knowledge, tradition, and civilisation.” He recalled the historical significance of the state in India’s freedom struggle, saying, “It was from this very land that Mahatma Gandhi gave a new direction to the voice of the people against British rule.” Extending his wishes, Kharge added, “On the auspicious occasion of Bihar Day, heartfelt greetings to all the residents of the state. We wish that all of you continue to make your invaluable contribution to the progress and development of the nation.”

‎Echoing similar sentiments, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi highlighted Bihar’s intellectual and cultural heritage in his message. “Bihar is a fountain of knowledge for India and our pride—it has always guided the nation through its rich history and culture,” he said in his post on X. He also conveyed his greetings, stating, “Heartfelt greetings to all the residents of the state on the occasion of Bihar Day.”

‎Bihar Day is observed annually on March 22 to commemorate the formation of the state in 1912, when it was carved out of the Bengal Presidency during British rule. The day is marked by cultural events and messages from political leaders across parties, acknowledging Bihar’s contributions to India’s history, education, and democratic evolution.
