Blaming the Congress government for the death of a youth after attempting self-immolation over BC reservation quota issue, BRS working president KT Rama Rao Friday alleged that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has deceived the Backward Classes by failing to uphold his promise of providing 42 per cent reservation in the upcoming local body polls.
The youth, Sri Sai Ishwar, died today at Gandhi Hospital after his self-immolation bid last evening to protest against the move. The BRS leader also demanded an ex-gratia of Rs 50 lakh for the next of kin while also calling out the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, to take responsibility for the death.

Rao slammed the Congress government after the youth who hailed from Jagadgirigutta died at the hospital at around 1 pm after suffering 90 per cent burns. He had attempted self-immolation outside the office of YouTouber and MLC Teenmaar Mallanna in the Uppal area yesterday. After the death, several BC leaders gathered at the hospital and raised slogans.
The BRS working president said, “By reducing BC reservations in Panchayat elections to just 17 per cent, the Chief Minister has stabbed the backward classes in the back. This is nothing but a murder committed by the Congress government. Along with Chief Minister Revanth (Reddy), Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should also take responsibility for Sai Ishwar.” He then went on to add, “From initiating caste census to issuing GOs that won’t hold up in courts, the Congress has built a pyre for the Kamareddy Declaration without an iota of sincerity. The government should announce an ex-gratia of Rs 50 lakhs to the bereaved family and support them.”
Meanwhile, the Telangana High Court today dismissed a quo warranto petition filed by the BC Welfare Association challenging the reduction of reservations for BC in Panchayat elections and seeking the removal of all district collectors. The petition argued that the reduction of the BC quota from 24 per cent to 17 per cent was arbitrary.
