Bareth was admitted to the hospital about a month ago following pneumonia-related complications and had been on life support for the past few weeks. He suffered a cardiac arrest late on Friday night.

Senior Journalist and former Rajasthan State Information Commissioner Prof Narayan Bareth passed away at a private hospital here late Friday night.

Bareth was admitted to the hospital about a month ago following pneumonia-related complications and had been on life support for the past few weeks. He suffered a cardiac arrest late on Friday night.

Bareth (68) is survived by his wife and daughter, Bhawana.

He was cremated here on Saturday afternoon. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Chairman of the Rajasthan Heritage Protection and Promotion Authority and former Rajya Sabha MP Onkar Singh Lakhawat, along with Bareth’s friends from the political arena, members of the media fraternity, and NGO leaders and activists, were present.

During his long career in the media, Bareth worked with leading organisations, including Navbharat Times and BBC Hindi.

He also served as Professor of Journalism at the Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication, Jaipur, and later held the post of State Information Commissioner in Rajasthan.

Describing him as a “gentleman scribe”, former CM Gehlot said in a condolence message, “Narayan Ji’s untimely demise is a personal loss to me and a big loss to journalism.”
