In a scathing attack on the DMK, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and film star-turned politician Vijay on Thursday termed the ruling Dravidian major an ‘evil force’ banking on corrupt money, which can be removed from power only by the TVK.

“The DMK is an evil force while the TVK is the force of purity and electoral battle is between the two. Only the TVK can defeat the anti-people DMK which is banking the money amassed through corruption,” he said, addressing a party’s mass outreach at Saralai, near Erode. This is his second public meeting following the one at Puducherry after the September 27 stampede at his rally in Karur which claimed 41 lives, including women and children.

Interestingly, Vijay, who turned acerbic, appears to have taken a cue from the late AIADMK leader and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who was the first to call the DMK as an evil force in 2013. She had continued to target the DMK under Karunanidhi as such since then.

“Don’t loot in the name of Periyar (Dravidian icon EV Ramasamy). I have the support of the masses unlike you, banking on the support of money hoarded through corruption,” he said, reiterating that the DMK is the political adversary while the BJP is the ideological enemy. Significantly, Erode city is the birthplace of the rationalist reformer Periyar and the native district of expelled AIADMK veteran KA Sengottaiyan, who had joined the TVK.

Without identifying both the AIADMK and the BJP, Vijay explained that the TVK is in a fight with the adversary on the battle ground viz, the DMK, and is not bothered about those not in the fight. “In the 2026 election our fight is against the adversary on the battleground. Because of your insinuations, we will not talk about others who are not even in the fray. Having come to the ring after clearly identifying our rival, it is not necessary to fritter away our energy and focus,” he said.

The DMK was out to stall the TVK’s rise and growth, Vijay charged and said he would be thankful to the people all his life. “Despite the public posturing of being immune to the TVK, the DMK is indeed rattled. They are thinking 24X7 on how to silence and contain Vijay and the TVK,” he claimed and quipped “Those who come in disguise should take care to properly hide themselves.”

Justifying his use of Dravidian icons, DMK founder and late Chief Minister ‘Anna’ (CN Annadurai), and AIADMK founder and legendary film star, MGR (MG Ramachandran), he said they are assets for the whole of Tamil Nadu and anyone could use them.

Vijay was presented with a Silver sceptre, in tune with Dravidian political culture, by Sengottaiyan. It might be recalled that Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin was presented with a silver throne-like chair at the recently held DMK Youth Wing regional conference at Tiruvannamalai.
