The TVK Education Awards programme is set to return this year with a special significance. For the first time since becoming Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C. Joseph Vijay will personally honour top-performing students in the Class 10 and Class 12 State Board examinations.

The award ceremony is expected to be held in Chennai either in the last week of July or during the first week of August. Although the final date has not yet been announced, party leaders say preparations are almost complete.

This year’s event marks a new chapter for an initiative that began before Vijay officially entered electoral politics and has since become one of TVK’s biggest public programmes.

Students and parents to attend grand ceremony

According to senior TVK leaders, district-level organisers have already been instructed to identify eligible students who secured top ranks in their respective districts. Party workers are also reaching out to the students’ families and making arrangements for their travel to Chennai.

Parents of the selected students will also be invited to attend the event, making it a celebration for both the achievers and their families.

Like the previous edition, the programme is expected to take place in a private hotel in Mahabalipuram. Instead of organising separate regional events, TVK plans to conduct the entire ceremony in a single phase, bringing together students from all parts of Tamil Nadu.

First awards ceremony after Vijay became Chief Minister

This edition of the Education Awards carries added importance because it will be the first one organised after Vijay assumed office as Chief Minister.

While he has handed out these awards in earlier years as the founder of the initiative, this time he will felicitate students in his role as the head of the Tamil Nadu government.

Even with this change in his position, party leaders have clarified that the programme itself remains a TVK initiative and is not being organised by the state government.

A programme that began before electoral politics

TVK introduced the Education Awards in 2023 with the aim of recognising outstanding academic performance among students studying in both government and private schools.

Under the programme, Vijay personally honoured the top three Class 10 and Class 12 scorers from every Assembly constituency across Tamil Nadu.

The initiative soon gained attention for celebrating academic success on large scale. Every year, thousands of students along with their family members participated in the event, making it one of the party’s most visible public outreach efforts.

Social media speculation ends

After TVK formed the government following its Assembly election victory, many people on social media questioned whether the Education Awards would continue this year. The delay in announcing the programme had led to speculation that the initiative might have been dropped.

However, party leaders repeatedly said that there were no plans to discontinue the awards. They explained that the announcement was delayed because the party was waiting for the examination process to be completed before beginning logistical arrangements.

With preparations now reaching the final stage, the party has made it clear that the Education Awards will continue as planned.

TVK says programme will remain independent

Party sources have also clarified an important point regarding the event. Even though Vijay is now the Chief Minister, the awards will not be presented on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government.

Instead, the gold medals, certificates and other honours will continue to be provided under the TVK banner. The party says this decision reflects the programme’s original purpose and preserves its identity as a long-running educational initiative started by the organisation.
