Slamming the Modi government for rejecting the Metro Rail projects for Madurai and Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin on Thursday called it another proof that the BJP-led dispensation at the Centre had an “inbuilt nefarious intention” to block the development of the state.
“Yet another betrayal by the Prime Minister. Even before his speech made before farmers could vanish and his visit to Coimbatore could become a thing of past, the Union Government has turned down our request to enhance moisture content in paddy for procurement from the present 17 percent to 22 percent, in view of the monsoon rains,” he wrote on his ‘X’ timeline.

“When such requests have been granted in the past, why deny now? Is not the unanimous voice of Tamil Nadu reaching the PM’s ears? Can’t he hear the wailings of the farmers,” he asked and requested that the demand for hiking moisture content be reconsidered and a positive decision arrived at.
“Having rejected the Metro Rail Projects for Coimbatore and Madurai, he had come to Coimbatore without even an iota of guilt, he charged and drew attention to the massive protest by the DMK-led Secular Progressive Front in Coimbatore against the Union Government.
He also accused the Modi dispensation of disenfranchising voters through SIR exercise, reducing Lok Sabha seats through delimitation and persisting with a Governor denigrating the dignity of democracy. Further, the discrimination in financial allocation, Hindi imposition and assault on Tamil. “Against all these, Tamil Nadu will carry on its struggle and emerge victorious,” he asserted.
