According to police reports, around 10:30 PM on Friday, a dispute broke out between Jais Mohammad and Gurunam Singh, following which Jais allegedly opened fire with a country-made pistol.
Gurunam was hit in the upper abdomen and was rushed to the hospital, where he is now reported to be out of danger.
Following a complaint, Bahedi police registered a case and launched a manhunt. At around 6:15 AM on Saturday, police teams were conducting checks near Naula Farm in the Sirsa outpost area when they spotted the accused approaching on a motorcycle.
Upon seeing the police, Jais opened fire, prompting retaliatory action. In the ensuing gunfire, he was shot in the leg and apprehended. The police recovered a .315 bore pistol, two spent cartridges, one live round, and the motorcycle from the spot.
SSP Bareilly, Anurag Arya, stated, “A case was already registered against the accused in connection with the firing. Police acted promptly and arrested him after an encounter. Teams have been put on alert to maintain law and order in the area.”
