Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, two Assam Rifles personnel including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were killed and five others injured in a major terrorist attack in Manipur’s Nambol Sabal area of Bishnupur district on Friday.
The ambush took place around 5:50 pm when terrorists targeted a vehicle column of the 33 Assam Rifles moving from its Patsoi Company Operating Base to the Nambol Company Operating Base.

According to senior officials, the terrorists opened fire as the troops reached Nambol Sabal Leikai in the denotified area of Manipur.
The injured personnel were rushed to RIMS Hospital, where they are receiving treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
“The troops showed restraint while retaliating to avoid civilian casualties,” officials were quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Following the attack, security forces launched a search operation to track down the terrorists, who fled after opening fire.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes just days after Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the violence-hit state.
The Prime Minister visited Manipur on September 13, more than two years after ethnic violence erupted between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities in the northeastern state.
