Priyanka Chopra on Kangana Ranaut: Priyanka Chopra recently took a nostalgic trip down memory lane in a chat with ‘Vogue’, revisiting some of her most iconic looks from her long-spanning career. One of the standout memories she reflected on was from her 2008 film ‘Fashion’, a movie that not only redefined her career but also left a lasting impact on Indian cinema.
Wearing a knowing smile and recalling her early days, Priyanka said, “Fashion. This was 2008… It was one of my first woman-led films. I had been in the industry for only about four years back then, and honestly, I was pretty nervous taking it on. I ended up working on it for about six months straight.”

Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, ‘Fashion’ told the story of Meghna Mathur, a small-town girl who rises to fame as a supermodel, only to be exposed to the brutal realities behind the glamorous façade of the fashion world.
The film was a take on the highs and lows of fame and ambition, and Priyanka’s lead performance earned her a National Award for Best Actress.
In the same breath, she didn’t shy away from giving credit to her co-stars. “Mugdha Godse and Kangana Ranaut were my co-actors. Both incredibly talented. Kangana actually won a National Award alongside me for ‘Fashion’. It was such a pivotal movie for all of us,” Priyanka noted, applauding Kangana Ranaut’s powerful role as the troubled supermodel Shonali.
Priyanka also revealed an interesting behind-the-scenes detail that had fans talking at the time, the staggering number of costume changes. “I had about 110 to 120 outfit changes in the film. That became a fun little trivia about the movie because it was about the fashion industry, after all,” she laughed.
The film marked an important shift in Bollywood’s storytelling, focusing on a female-led narrative, layered performances, and realistic portrayals of an industry often romanticized.
‘Fashion’ wasn’t the last time Priyanka and Kangana worked together. The two reunited in the 2013 superhero film ‘Krrish 3’, where they again brought strong performances to the big screen, albeit in completely different genres.
As for what’s next, Priyanka continues to make waves internationally. She last appeared in ‘Heads of State’, a Hollywood action-comedy featuring John Cena and Idris Elba.
Her previous Indian project, ‘The White Tiger’ (2021), premiered on Netflix and received global attention. Fans now eagerly await her return to Indian cinema in SS Rajamouli’s much-anticipated ‘SSMB 29’.
