The makers of Article 15 launched a new song “Naina Yeh” featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Isha Talwar. Apart from the romance and classical music, the song reminds us of another 2016 Hollywood film track.

Whether a purposeful choice that the makers made or just a coincidence, the opening music of the song is similar to Roger Neill’s soundtrack of the critically acclaimed film, 20th Century Women.

The “Santa Barbara” sequence, wherein the era of 1979 is introduced at the beginning of the film reminds one of the opening music of the Piyush Shankar composed track.

It is only for a few seconds, but the similarity is striking and so is the idea of an overhead visual sequence.

20th Century Women is a comedy-drama written and directed by Mike Mills and stars Annette Bening, Elle Fanning, Greta Gerwig, Lucas Jade Zumann and Billy Crudup. The film is set in 1970s Southern California and based on the director’s childhood.

Meanwhile, Article 15 takes inspiration from life events, including the Badaun gang-rape case 2014 and the Una flogging incident in 2016.

The film is based on Article 15 of the Indian Constitution which prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth.

The film is written by Gaurav Solanki and directed by Anubhav Sinha.
