BJP accuses Cong of levelling false accusations for political survival

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday criticised Congress leaders for leveling false and baseless accusations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government and said there seems to be a competition between them on making such statements.

The state BJP chief spokesperson Randhir Sharma said the accusations of former Union minister Anand Sharma on a country’s economy just ahead of voting for Karnataka polls, were without any facts.

“Sharma’s statement that the policy decision of demonetisation and Goods and Services Tax (GST) was a failure and had caused more harm than good, is without any basis,” he said. Adding these statements seems to be made for the political survival of Congress party.

The fact is that both the demonetisation and GST had benefitted the country and these decisions had resulted government getting 12.7 per cent more revenue under direct taxes, he said.

“These decisions, even had increased party’s base and it was the result that party is now ruling in 21 states across the country,” he said, adding Congress leaders seems to be frustrated over the fact.

He questioned Sharma as to what he did for his home state when he was Union Commerce minister during the previous Congress led UPA
regime.

“Why wasn’t able to extend the special industrial package to the state which granted by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee led government,” he said.

“The way Congress leaders are issuing statements shows their frustration and it might also be the result of impending defeat in Karnataka Assembly polls,” Sharma said, adding Congress will now be limited to Punjab and Pondicherry only.

The state BJP chief spokesperson said Modi government has launched various schemes for the welfare of common man and they are satisfied with the functioning of the BJP government.

“BJP is proud of the achievements of its government at Centre during its four years’ rule,” he said, while asking Congress leaders to apologise for misrule and corruption during its 70 year’s rule.
