Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken on Friday kicked off a week-long “Save Metro” campaign in the national capital and asked that if both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are protesting against the fare hike, then who actually raised the fares.

“The AAP and the BJP’s student’s wing ABVP (sic), both parties are in power, one in the state and the other at Centre, and both are protesting over the Metro fare hike,” Maken said after kicking off the campaign from Akshardham Metro station here.

“Now, I am unable to make out who actually raised the metro fares,” he said.

Maken was referring to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protest against the Metro fare hike in the national capital.

On the other hand, the AAP government in Delhi is also opposing the new Metro fares and launched its “Metro Fare Satyagraha” against the hike, at Metro stations across the city.

The fares of the Delhi Metro were increased for the second time in a year on October 10.

The Congress leader also advised both parties to stop doing politics on the issue which is directly related to the masses.

“The AAP and the BJP must stop politics on the issues of common man,” he said.

Delhi Congress workers across the city also collected signatures of Metro commuters against the fare hike.
