Four persons, including a Delhi Government employee, have been arrested in the lynching of teenager Junaid in a local train in Haryana.

Junaid was stabbed to death while his brothers, Hashim and Shaqir, were injured by a mob which allegedly hurled communal slurs at them on board the Delhi-Mathura passenger train between Ballabgarh and Mathura stations last Thursday night. Junaid's body was dumped near Asaoti village in Faridabad district.

Kamaldeep Goyal, GRP Superintendent of Police, Ambala Cantt, said all the accused are residents of a village near Hodal city. "We cannot disclose the names of the accused as there is a legal process," said Goyal, adding that most of them are aged between 24 and 30.

The main accused is a 50-year-old Delhi government employee, who had hurled communal slurs at Junaid and his brothers. The other three accused are employees in private companies in Ballabhgarh and Faridabad.
According to the police, the 50-year-old accused had an altercation with Junaid and his brothers over seat sharing from

Delhi's Okhla area. The accused made remarks hurting the victims’ religious  sentiments. The quarrel escalated after three youth, who had boarded the train in New Town Faridabad, also entered the fight.

"In between the scuffle the accused pulled out knives and attacked Junaid," police said.

With the fresh arrests, the total number held in the case has risen to five. One of the accused who had stabbed 17-year-old Junaid is still at large.

"We have crucial leads and he will be nabbed soon," police said.

Sources said Junaid’s brother Hashim on Wednesday visited the police station and helped police draw up a sketch of the accused. Earlier, another accused identified as Ramesh was arrested by GRP from Palwal.

Sources said the police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for credible information leading to the arrest of the accused persons which might have helped them arrest four of the accused in the case.

The lynching of Junaid has been widely condemned. On Monday, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar condemned the incident and appealed to the people to maintain peace.
