Donald Trump says July 4 speech will happen ‘no matter what’ as storms threaten event
This came after authorities ordered the crowd to evacuate the area near the Washington Monument where Donald Trump was scheduled to speak.
Commemorated 250th anniversary of American independence, US President Donald Trump mixed partisan politics with patriotic appeals as he declared the event as “one of the most joyous and glorious milestones of all time.”
During his address at the National Mall in Washington, Trump honoured veterans, including those from World War II as well as one of the first Black officers to lead a Special Forces team in combat in Vietnam, The Associated Press reported.

The event took place after storms prompted a nearly two-hour evacuation of the venue.

In his campaign-style speech that repeated his calls for new voting restrictions, Trump warned that “communists” could gain ground in the United States.
Besides lauding American achievements like war victories, the lunar landing and the Wright brothers’ pioneering flight, the US President urged Congress to pass stalled legislation aimed at limiting mail ballots and requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote.
He even claimed to have “wiped out” Iran’s military and cautioned against a rise of communism in the country.
“We will always be on top… We will never let our country fall. We will always be the best,” Trump said.
He even joked about seeking a third presidential term and about World War II’s “greatest generation.”
“They are the greatest generation… I hate to admit that, but they are,” he added.
