WATCH: F-16, Sukhoi-30 escort PM Modi’s aircraft in Indonesia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, July 6, arrived in Indonesia as part of three-nation tour. He received a ceremonial welcome that included two fighter jets – an F-16 and a Sukhoi-30 – escorting his aircraft before he landed in Jakarta.

As Prime Minister Modi’s aircraft entered Indonesian airspace, it was escorted by the two fighter jets in a ceremonial gesture before landing in Jakarta.

Being an agile, single-engine American-origin fighter jet, the F-16 has served for decades with several nations, while the Sukhoi-30 is a larger, twin-engine fighter jet built by Russia.

Notably, India owns several squadrons of the Sukhoi-30MKI version that have been specifically adapted to India’s requirements.

Deeply touched: PM Modi thanks Indonesian President Subianto for warm welcome at airport

Soon after landing in Jakarta, Prime Minister Modi said he was “deeply touched” by the warmth of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who received him at the airport.

This is the Prime Minister’s maiden bilateral visit to Jakarta since the elevation of ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.

In a post on X, he said he was looking forward to talks with President Subianto that will provide greater momentum to the close ties between both countries.

“Arrived in Jakarta. I was deeply touched by the warmth of President Prabowo Subianto, who personally welcomed me at the airport. In 2018, we elevated the relationship between our two countries to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has brought many benefits to our peoples,” PM Modi posted on X.

“During this visit, President Prabowo Subianto and I will hold discussions aimed at providing greater momentum to this partnership across various sectors. President Prabowo and I will also visit the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta. This visit will strengthen the cultural ties between our two nations even further. While in Indonesia, I am also very much looking forward to the opportunity to interact with the Indian community,” he added.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said President Prabowo Subianto along with four ministers welcomed PM Modi at the airport.

Also, PM Modi witnessed a cultural performance at the airport.
