Under the ₹13,037 crore project, a 41-km North-South Metro corridor will be developed from Prahladpura to Todi Mod. This is aimed at providing seamless connectivity to key destinations, such ass Sitapura Industrial Area, Vishwakarma Industrial Area (VKIA), Jaipur International Airport, Tonk Road, Sawai Man Singh Hospital, Sawai Man Singh Stadium and Jaipur Railway Station among others.
A total of 36 metro stations will be there in the Phase-2 corridor, wherein a modern mass transit system will be created to link Jaipur’s expanding industrial hubs with major residential and commercial centres.
The project is being implemented by the Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL), making it a 50:50 joint venture between the state and the central governments.
In the airport area, the project will have underground stations to integrate them with the existing metro network.
After getting approval from the Union Cabinet, the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Limited has issued the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for the first construction package worth more than ₹918.04 crore.
The overall package includes the construction of a 12-km elevated corridor from Prahladpura to Pinjrapol Gaushala, as well as 10 elevated stations at Prahladpura, Manpura, Bilwa Kalan, Bilwa, Goner Mod, Sitapura, Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC), Kumbha Marg, Haldighati Gate and Pinjrapol Gaushala, IANS reported.
Also, there will be a dedicated spur line connecting the corridor to the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 depot.
Notably, the existing 11.64-km Phase-1 corridor of the Jaipur Metro runs from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar with 11 stations. Presently it serves around 50,000 passengers on a daily basis.
After the completion of Phase-2, daily ridership is expected to increase to about 2.5 lakh passengers, with the potential to exceed four lakh commuters in the coming years.
