Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said he is “honoured” to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Australia next week for the Australia-India Annual Leaders’ Summit, describing the bilateral partnership as one of growing strategic importance.

According to a statement issued by the Australian Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday, PM Modi will visit Australia from July 8 to July 10, during which Albanese will host him in Melbourne for the annual summit.

The statement described India as Australia’s fourth-largest and one of its fastest-growing economic partners, saying the relationship is anchored in the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and strengthened by close economic and cultural ties.

It added that cooperation across trade, defence, security and technology continues to deliver benefits for both nations.

The Australian Prime Minister’s Office also noted that Albanese and PM Modi last met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg in November 2025.

“I am honoured to welcome my friend Prime Minister Modi to Australia for our Annual Leaders’ Summit,” Albanese said in the statement.

“The Australia-India relationship has never been more consequential, and our partnership fosters peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. I look forward to strengthening Australia and India’s deep partnership,” he added.

After concluding his Australia visit, PM Modi is scheduled to travel to New Zealand from July 10 to July 11 at the invitation of Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. According to an earlier announcement by the Indian government, it will be the first State Visit by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in nearly four decades.
