It is imperative to engage children in activities at home for their psychological development.

Playing riddles and critical thinking diversions could be some of the ideal activities for this purpose.

A recent study done by, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) have discovered that connecting books by perusing books could be the best psychological gift for children.

“The culture of reading books to preschoolers in Indian households is grossly inadequate. Reading books to children will not only help them open limitless opportunities for children, it will also give them entirely new way to communicate,” Prabhjot Malhi, Professor in department of Pediatrics, PGIMER told The Statesman.

The study has been done in 150 pre-schoolers and it has discovered that very few parents engage in shared book reading. The pediatricians believe that parents should initiate reading habits in 3 to 5-year-old children. Moreover, if children learn to enjoy listening to books, they will develop reading skills on their own and the will not see it as a difficult task to avoid.

Parents and caregivers should make connections from the story to the children's everyday lives or personal experiences.

They can also ask few questions from the children to recall the initial part of the story.

"Reading schedules and giving quality time help the children grow. But parents should be cautious not to expose their children aged 3 to 5-year-old to any sort of gadgets or technologies since it won't help them in over-stimulation to develop up a mind," said Malhi.
