External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar officially launched India’s campaign for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2028-29 term, saying the country’s presence in this vital body will help decision-making at a time when the world is facing a profound paradox.

Given our predominant role in peacekeeping, India gave UN peacekeeping a strong focus in the last year, Tirumurti said.
The council recognised that the current situation continues to constitute a threat to international peace and security.
While "strongly condemning" the terrorist attack in Kabul, India extends "heartfelt condolences" to the families of the victims of the attack, India's Permanent Representative T.S. Tirumurti said as he presided over a meeting of the Security Council.
