An FIR has been registered at the Kotwali Police Station under the UAPA, the Explosives Act, and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), according to police officials. The FIR includes Sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA, dealing with punishment and conspiracy for a terror attack.
Three others, who were convicted by the court on Wednesday, were sentenced to three years of imprisonment under various charges.
The move came in the wake of outrage of outrage over registration of cases against human rights activist Prof Haragopal and 151 others under the the draconian law.
However, the people, including two professors, named in the FIR were unaware of the charges under UAPA until the matter came to light during another trial.
The authorities had recently attached properties of several Pakistan based terrorists who belong to Kishtwar district of Jammu.
The serial blasts on May 13, 2008 had left 80 people dead and 176 others injured. On December 20, 2019, a Jaipur court had sentenced each of the four convicts to capital punishment.
The NIA said a secret wing had a state-wide network and was responsible for data collection and the preparation of the list of targets. This secret service was based in the PFI offices.
A forensic examination of the fake currency revealed it to be high quality and sections 16 & 18 of UAPA were invoked in the case.
Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad, had sought his custody for 10 days saying that the police wanted to question him with data that ran into 11 lakh pages, "as well as other evidence collected during the investigation of the present case and also to examine at length about other suspects and various other aspects”.
Umar Khalid was summoned and questioned by the Delhi Police Special cell officers on Saturday and Sunday. He was questioned for around 10 hours and he will be produced before a Delhi court on Monday.
