The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA)’s situation report has flagged that at least 340,000 Palestinians have been displaced across the Gaza Strip.
The United Nations on Tuesday raised growing security concerns in Afghanistan while highlighting worrisome trends witnessed in recent months, particularly the continuing presence of foreign terrorist groups in the country.
A long-awaited report was released on August 31 in Geneva, minutes before Michelle Bachelet, the UN high commissioner for human rights, was set to leave office.
The Taliban-led government in Afghanistan has dismissed a UN assessment claiming that conflict between armed groups in the country is escalating, claiming that Kabul is not "facing any imminent or probable threat.”
Higher prices and shortages of farming inputs including fertilizers are likely to persist in the region, negatively impacting the agricultural sector in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. This will probably result in weaker harvests and exert further upward pressures on food prices in the near term, the report said.
The Sample Registration System reveals that the rate has gone up to 899 girls per 1000 boys in 2016-18 ~ up from 896 in 2015-17, in itself a minor gain.
According to the report, child casualties from aerial attacks have increased every year since 2015, reversing a downward trend.
The secretary-general said the U.N. human rights office received and analyzed accounts of North Koreans who had experienced detention, the vast majority of them women who escaped initially to China
"The report is unfortunately aligned with the media and political narrative imposed by Washington, which symbolically attacks Venezuela", the President added.
UN Human Rights chief Michelle Bachelet visited Venezuela last month and will present the report to the UN Human Rights Council on Friday.
