India highlighted risks to energy supply and global trade at the UN as attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz intensify, stressing diplomacy, safety of navigation, and protection of civilians.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held talks with Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York in what was the first high-level contact between the two countries after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was dislodged from power last month.
The resolution was passed on Saturday, two days after its draft was approved on Thursday.

The G7 leaders' meeting, which the US is to host this year as it occupies the rotating presidency of the group, was scheduled from June 10-12.
