The Jharkhand Assembly on Thursday concluded its monsoon session by passing a unanimous resolution recommending the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour, for the late Shibu Soren.
Officials said the move aims to ensure that the younger generation grows up with awareness of Jharkhand’s own icons alongside national leaders.
Former Chief Minister and Dishom Guru Shibu Soren was given a final farewell steeped in Santhal tradition on Sunday, as his ashes were immersed in the sacred Damodar river at Rajrappa.

Revanth Reddy, Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, senior parliamentarians, and spiritual leader Baba Ramdev were among the dignitaries who joined Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his family in remembering the late leader, who was affectionately known as Guruji.
Shibu Soren, popularly known as Dishom Guru (meaning “great leader” in the Santhali language), died on 4 August 2025 at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi. He was 81 years old.

The last rites of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) founder and former Chief Minister Shibu Soren will be performed on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in his native village, Nemra, near Barka Nala in Bokaro district.
