Mukesh Korsa, who surrendered before the Malkangiri district police, joined the banned CPI outfit in 2023. He was an active member of People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the armed wing of the banned outfit.
Police said that based on specific information, a team of Police from Darhal police station, SoG, Army's Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF launched a joint cordon and search operation (CASO) in areas of Sagrawat forest in Darhal.
These efforts, focused on vulnerable fringe areas, led to the significant seizure of weapons, explosives, and other dangerous materials.
Security forces are said to have established contact with the hiding terrorists in the upper reaches and trapped them in the forested area.
The gunfight ensued after terrorists fired at the security forces who were carrying out a search and cordon operation in the area.
According to reports, two Special Police Officers who had decamped with weapons on Thursday are among the four killed.
The protest came days after Amit Shah took charge of the Home Ministry in the Narendra Modi-led NDA government.
Additional forces were rushed to the area to flush out the militants from the orchard area, police sources said.
Reports said the holed-up militants managed to escape while the security forces were dealing with the protesters in Kulgam district.
