A one-day special session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly will be held on April 24. During this session, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary will present a motion of confidence in the House and seek to prove his government’s majority.
Addressing the media for the first time after assuming office of the Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Chaudhary assured the people that the new government would continue to function along the same lines as the previous administration led by Nitish Kumar.
Soon after being elected leader of the BJP Legislative Party, Samrat Chaudhary, in a social media message, described Nitish Kumar’s “highly successful tenure and model of good governance” as a source of inspiration.
His tenure as the BJP’s Bihar state president was particularly notable, as he worked to expand the party’s grassroots reach. Within a year, he transitioned into governance as Deputy Chief Minister, handling multiple crucial portfolios.
Highly placed sources in JDU told The Statesman that party members and Kumar’s ministerial colleagues from Bihar want him to preside over a last Cabinet meeting day after tomorrow, April 13.
An Assembly remark and a sharp social media response have intensified political tensions in Bihar, days after Pappu Yadav’s arrest in a 1995 case linked to the NEET student controversy.
However, political observers believe that Nitish’s path will not be easy in 2026, as whispers within political circles are growing louder that the BJP wants him to vacate the chief minister’s chair for a leader from the saffron party.
Addressing party workers at a grand felicitation ceremony held at Miller High School Ground in Patna, Nitin Nabin urged them to unite under the leadership of Bihar BJP President Sanjay Saraogi and Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, and begin preparations for the upcoming Panchayat elections in the state.
Among other leaders whose security has been beefed up are independent MP from Purnia Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, BJP MP from Araria Pradeep Kumar Singh, JDU MLA from Barh Gyanendra Singh Gyanu, and JDU Chief Spokesperson and MLC Neeraj Kumar.
"Fodder was stolen in Bihar. There is a film of Amitabh Bachchan in which 'mera baap chor hai' is written on his hand. Tejashwi Yadav will also have to write the same," Chaudhary said.
