Rohan Bopanna has been playing tennis for ages and has paraded his wares on the famous red clay of Roland Garros here for a number of years, but even for him coming back to represent his country with partner Sriram Balaji in the 2024 Olympic Games is something “special”.
Bopanna also became the oldest player to achieve No.1 ranking in men's doubles.
The Rohan-Rutuja duo struggled in the initial set of the match and lost the first set against Chinese Taipei's En-shuo Liang and Tsung-hao Huang by 6-2.
The 39-year-old was expected to play with legendary Leander Paes for the doubles rubber during the November 29-30 tie.
This was the first time that the tennis star dropped out of top-100 bracket in 19 years.
The 45-year-old Bhupathi said as per the All India Tennis Association's (AITA) last communication to him, he was replaced as the non-playing captain for making himself unavailable to travel to Pakistan.
