The global ransomware attacks are at an all-time high, and the US is the primary target, a new report has said.
A deadly malware named Akira, which mostly targets Windows and Linux systems, is the biggest looming threat.
Information security company, CyberArk, on Sunday said that more than 91 per cent of the Indian organisations experienced ransomware attacks in 2022 while 55 per cent of the affected organisations reported paying up twice or more to allow recovery, signalling that they were likely victims of double extortion campaigns.
On a global scale, the survey also showed that when organisations paid a ransom to get their data decrypted, they ended up additionally doubling their recovery costs (US$750,000 in recovery costs versus US$375,000 for organisations that used backups to get data back).
