The investigation began during Operation Hardball, a joint anti-gang crackdown by the FBI and Canadian authorities, which uncovered alleged links between a serving Punjab Police officer and overseas gang networks.

Harmanbir Singh Gill said the operation was conducted jointly by teams from Lopoke Police Station, Jandiala Police Station, the Special Cell, and Amritsar Rural Police.
According to officials, the victim is the son of Sunita, an Executive Engineer (XEN) posted at the Panipat Thermal Plant.
Police officials said the accused were part of a network involved in the illegal procurement and distribution of sophisticated weapons.
