Preliminary investigation suggests the accused were linked to foreign-based smugglers who allegedly supplied heroin and illegal firearms for distribution among criminal networks in Punjab and beyond.
The investigation began during Operation Hardball, a joint anti-gang crackdown by the FBI and Canadian authorities, which uncovered alleged links between a serving Punjab Police officer and overseas gang networks.

The arrested accused has been identified as Vipan Kumar, a resident of Bassi Muda, Baghpur Mandir in Hoshiarpur.
The crackdown led to the arrest of 99 drug smugglers and registration of 68 first information reports (FIRs) across the state.
The affected districts include Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Fazilka, and Ferozepur.
