The common man in Uttar Pradesh, already grappling with inflation, cooking gas shortages, and increased milk prices, received yet another blow as petrol, diesel, and CNG prices in the state increased starting Friday morning.
India’s state-run oil companies have raised petrol and diesel prices by ₹3 per litre nationwide, pushing fuel costs higher across major cities amid rising crude oil pressures.
The Government has said that citizens are encouraged to use alternate fuels such as PNG and electric or induction cooktops.
In the light of the ongoing developments in West Asia, the Union government on Wednesday said India is maintaining sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel, adding that all refineries are operating at high capacity, with adequate crude inventories in place.
Accordingly, the increase in selling price, which includes state levies, central excise and cess amongst other factors, came days after an astronomical rise in crude oil prices due to the Russia-Ukraine war.
If sources in the industry are to be believed, the minimum price of petrol and diesel may go up by Rs 5 a litre. It might go up as high as Rs 10 a litre if the tension between Russia-Ukraine does not ease by then.
The cost-of-living increase was mainly influenced by higher prices for petrol, mortgage interest payments, and second-hand motor cars, Dewbery said.
The NDMC chairman presented a budget with a moderate surplus of Rs 135.84 crore in the current financial year (2021-22) and Rs 178.95 crore for the financial year 2022-23.
Across the country as well, the price of the fuel remained unchanged on Wednesday, but the retail rates varied depending on the level of local level taxes.
