Fuel prices are already touching new highs every other day.
With fuel prices remaining unchanged on Friday, petrol continued to cost Rs 97.76 per litre and diesel Rs 88.30 per litre in Delhi.
In tandem with petrol, price of diesel also increased. In Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, diesel was sold for Rs 95.44, Rs 92.58 and Rs 90.82 per litre, respectively.
The price of petrol increased by 17-19 paisa per litre while the diesel price increased by 28-30 paisa per litre across metro cities of the country.
Prices have been on a continuous uptrend since April 27, an industry official said adding Dubai crude oil price has risen by USD 2.91 per barrel.
This latest fall comes after a massive wave of Covid-19 infections continued to impact large parts of Europe.
New Delhi has come down to Rs 90.99 a litre from Rs 91.17 per litre, while diesel is now at Rs 81.30 a litre from previous rates of Rs 81.47.
The SBI economists said bringing petrol and diesel under the goods and services tax is an unfinished agenda of the GST framework and getting the prices under the new indirect taxes framework can help.
