Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced decentralisation of the powers of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) by giving the sarpanches and chairpersons of Panchayat Samitis and Zilla Parishads the right to accord administrative approval for development works up to Rs 2 lakh at their level without floating tenders.
A state government official said the state government has constituted 412 new gram panchayats to facilitate the people and also ensure rapid development of the rural areas.
It was challenge from Congress leaders including state chief Kuldeep Singh Rathore to BJP leadership to conduct MC polls on party symbol after both the parties claimed victory in over 70 per cent seats in Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Zila Parishad elections.
At present, 2,713 Panchayats are implementing online payments in the state. On hearing this, the CM suggested that it (online payment) should be implemented in every Panchayat.
Addressing 28 female members of PRIs today after presenting them with scooty for their commendable work, Chautala, who also holds the portfolio of development and panchayats department, said that the state government was taking strong initiatives for women empowerment.
