In a letter addressed to leaders of parties in the Lok Sabha, Birla expressed concern over the conduct of some members inside the House and within the Parliament complex, saying certain actions had affected the dignity and prestige of India’s parliamentary democracy.
“Even the Prime Minister must obtain permission from the Speaker before delivering a speech,” Birla said, responding to accusations from Opposition members that the Chair had been partial in allowing discussions in the House.
Reacting to the rejection of the motion, Yadav said the outcome was expected from the beginning.
BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who was in the Chair, after Birla decided to skip the proceedings, called for a voice vote and said the resolution has been defeated.
