Odisha Vigilance on Friday arrested two former Panchayat Executive Officers (PEOs) in Puri district for allegedly misappropriating government funds worth Rs 30.78 lakh meant for beneficiaries of the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY).
Three retired government officials were convicted by Special Vigilance Courts in Odisha on Tuesday in separate corruption cases involving misappropriation of government funds and possession of disproportionate assets, the Odisha Vigilance said.
A 52-year-old engineer with the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), who entered government service nearly 27 years ago at a monthly salary of just Rs 6,000, has come under the scanner of the Odisha Vigilance for allegedly amassing assets worth crores of rupees, apparently disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Since the BJP Government came to power in 2024, the Odisha Vigilance has made a seizure of Rs. 248.91 crore ill-gotten assets and arrested as many as 369 individuals including IAS and State administrative officers under prevention of corruption act, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said.
Prasanna Samantaray, Tahsildar of Kantapara in Cuttack district, was arrested by Odisha Vigilance and produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, in Cuttack for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income
The raids came following allegations that he possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
50-year-old Jitendra Kumar Panda, Additional Tahasildar, Barang, in the Cuttack district, who has come under Vigilance scanner, incidentally joined government service under Rehabilitation Scheme at Rs 2,000-a-month salary.
The Bhubaneswar Special Judge Vigilance court on Friday convicted former Odisha cadre IAS officer Vinod Kumar, besides six others, on corruption charges and sentenced them to undergo three-year rigorous imprisonment.
During this period from 12 June last year till 27 October this year, 132 cases have ended in conviction against 26 Class-I officers, 30 Class-II officers, 93 Class-III employees, 8 Class-IV employees, 8 other public servants, and 15 private persons.
Incidentally, the accused Kheti was found to have used Rs 11 lakh out of the misappropriated amount for online betting on "TEENPATTI" App.
