The anti-corruption vigilance wing of Odisha police has logged a 50% conviction rate in the corruption cases, while the rate of conviction in Disproportionate Assets (DA) cases stood at 80% in the last 18 months since the BJP government came to power, said officials on Tuesday.
During this period from 12 June last year till 27 October this year, 132 cases have ended in conviction against 26 Class-I officers, 30 Class-II officers, 93 Class-III employees, 8 Class-IV employees, 8 other public servants, and 15 private persons. Thus, altogether, 180 accused persons have been convicted during the period. Conviction rate in vigilance cases has been around 50%. In disproportionate assets cases, the conviction rate has been 80%, the Vigilance directorate said in a statement.

Similarly, 300 enquiries have been initiated against 58 Class-I officers, 39 Class-II officers, 213 Class-III employees, 2 Class-IV employees, 49 other public servants and 54 private persons on their alleged involvement in various acts of corruption and malpractices in the last 18 months.
While 247 enquiries have been disposed of, out of which 22 enquiries have been referred to respective departments for initiation of departmental action and 145 enquiries have been converted to criminal cases and 80 enquiries were closed due to inadequate substantiation.
During this period, 30 public servants have also been dismissed from government service following their conviction in vigilance cases, which include 2 Class-I officers, 5 Class-II officers and 23 Class-III employees, it said.
Furthermore, 302 criminal cases were registered and 303 government officers and others were arrested during the period under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Those arrested under corruption charges included an IAS officer, 90 Class-1 officers, seven chief engineers, and other government functionaries of different ranks.
As many as 80 Disproportionate Assets (DA) cases were also registered, leading to the unearthing of Rs 212 crore ill-gotten assets. Gold weighing 24 Kg, 832 plots, 84 acres of land, and eight farm houses owned by corrupt public servants were also unearthed.
