At 9.5% annual GSDP growth, survey portrays rosy picture of Odisha’s economy

Laying emphasis on proactive drought management, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo stated that building resilience is essential for protecting livelihoods and strengthening the rural economy.
Signed under the framework of the National Drought Mitigation Project (NDMP), the Rs 141.50 crore initiative represents a paradigm shift from reactive disaster relief to a proactive, science-led resilience model.
The experts on agriculture research said this while speaking at a two-day national workshop on “Positioning and Scaling Healthier Rice in Odisha’s Agri-Food System”, organised by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), in collaboration with the State’s Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE).
Deo, while speaking at the State Level World Soil Day Celebration here, said, Soil health plays a key role in ensuring food security, environmental balance, clean air, clean water, and better living standards in expanding urban spaces.
Odisha has 26 cold stores, of which four are in a dysfunctional state, while 14 districts out of 30 revenue districts do not have a functional cold store, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo told the Assembly on Wednesday in a written reply.
