In addition, to ensure the availability of resources for effective disaster preparedness, the highways authority is mapping the availability of key machinery for timely deployment.
Ground preparation has already started at the selected sites and plantations shall be taken up during the upcoming monsoon season scheduled to be completed by end of Aug 2024.
In what comes as a relief to the transport operators, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is to allow discounts to state carriage buses.
It is to be noted that the NHAI has raised Rs 40,314 crore through various modes of asset monetisation in 2023-24 against the target of Rs 28,868 crore, and as of now, the authority’s asset monetisation has crossed Rs 1 trillion.
With reduced visibility due to foggy conditions posing significant risk to the safety of the national highways users, these measures will help avoid potential accidents that endanger the safety of highway users.
The NHAI is implementing projects around NCR such as Dwarka Expressway, UER II Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway and Delhi–Dehradun Expressway.
As per the report, a total of 4,61,312 road accidents have been reported by States and Union Territories (UTs) during the calendar year 2022, which claimed 1,68,491 lives and caused injuries to 4,43,366 persons
