Ahead of the floor test to prove majority in the Assembly, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president on Monday walked the extra mile to meet his predecessor and DMK president MK Stalin at the latter’s residence, heralding a new political culture in the state.

Even as the DMK finds it difficult to digest the defeat at the hands of a debutant, Vijay, in the just-concluded assembly election, party president MK Stalin, in a bid to lift the morale of the rank and file of the party pointed out that the loss was of a meagre 3.52 per cent of votes and that the Dravidian major would bounce back to power.
The resignation comes against the backdrop of a major political shift in the state. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, emerged as the single largest party, securing 107 seats in the 234-member assembly, just 11 short of the majority mark. The DMK, which had been in power, was reduced to 59 seats, marking a sharp decline.
“I am shaken beyond words by what is unfolding in #Gaza. Every visual is gut wrenching. The cries of infants, the sight of starving children, the bombing of hospitals, and declaration of genocide by the UN Commission of Inquiry together show the suffering that no human being should ever be subjected to,” he wrote on ‘X’, expressing deep anguish.
“Today’s order strengthens the hope and trust that people place in the Hon’ble Supreme Court to safeguard religious rights of the Muslim minority community and to uphold the Constitution,” he wrote on his ‘X’ handle and added that this was a major step in undoing the unconstitutional and illegal amendments made to the Waqf Act.
In the first phase, 6,082 children have been identified to be eligible under this scheme. They would get Rs 2000 deposited directly into their bank account till they attain the age of 18.
Stalin said he was "making this request not just on behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu, but on behalf of the maestro acorss the globe."
Proceeding otherwise would run counter to the spirit of cooperative federalism and to the democratic ethos of our country,” he said in a Demi Official (DO) letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
