Ahead of the floor test to prove majority in the Assembly, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president on Monday walked the extra mile to meet his predecessor and DMK president MK Stalin at the latter’s residence, heralding a new political culture in the state.

Even as the DMK finds it difficult to digest the defeat at the hands of a debutant, Vijay, in the just-concluded assembly election, party president MK Stalin, in a bid to lift the morale of the rank and file of the party pointed out that the loss was of a meagre 3.52 per cent of votes and that the Dravidian major would bounce back to power.
The resignation comes against the backdrop of a major political shift in the state. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, emerged as the single largest party, securing 107 seats in the 234-member assembly, just 11 short of the majority mark. The DMK, which had been in power, was reduced to 59 seats, marking a sharp decline.
According to him, the BJP’s deep-rooted hatred for the Mahatma is evident in changing the very nomenclature. “It is out of spitefulness for Gandhiji, the father of the nation, that a difficult to pronounce Sanskritised nomenclature has been imposed.
Reacting to Shah’s recent remark that after Bihar, the BJP’s next target is Tamil Nadu, the DMK chief said, “Tamil Nadu will remain insurmountable for the saffron Parivar to scale. It will continue to be so even if Amit Shah brings the entire army of the Sangh Parivar; he cannot win the state.”
With a stable and high growth rate recorded in the past three years, Chief Minister MK Stalin said Tamil Nadu at 16 per cent has become the number one state in the country in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) leaving behind bigger states as per the data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Interestingly, he also asked ticket aspirants from Puducherry and Kerala to get the applications since the Union Territory and the neighbouring state as well are also having assembly elections early next year.
