The announcement was entirely due to the decision by the High Court earlier in the day on the application by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and three others to strike out a suit by Mahathir and four other people.
The crisis ended with Muhyiddin, who founded Bersatu with Mahathir before joining a four-party alliance that won 2018 elections, being nominated as the prime minister.
At the ripe old age of 94 and once the world's oldest leader, Mahathir has raised questions over his legitimacy amidst nationwide protests.
Muhyiddin, 72, had served as Deputy Prime minister under former Prime Minister Najib Razak from 2009 to 2015.
