The Centre has announced five new categories of fuel dispensing systems under the ambit of Government Approved Test Centres (GATCs). These include dispensers for petrol and diesel, CNG, LPG, LNG, and hydrogen.
Government Approved Test Centres are specialised facilities equipped with technical infrastructure and expertise to carry out verification and re-verification of weights and measures under the Legal Metrology Act and related Rules.
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a Rs 37,500 crore incentive scheme for surface coal and lignite gasification projects, aiming to strengthen India’s energy security, reduce dependence on imported fuels and chemicals, and accelerate the country’s transition towards cleaner utilisation of domestic coal resources.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday stated that six Indian ships carrying LPG, LNG and other products have been able to safely cross the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
Commercial LPG prices have already risen about 8% in March, and even a five-day supply break could cut store revenues and margins across India’s organised quick service restaurant sector.
Indian refiners have increased LPG production while the government diversifies LNG import routes to stabilise fuel availability and protect household energy supply during geopolitical disruptions.
The government has also asked gas producers, importers and marketers to submit detailed data on production, imports, stocks, and supply as it closely monitors the energy situation.
India is in touch with other suppliers, asserting that there is no shortage of LPG, LNG, and crude oil in the world, the government sources added.
