Congress leader Supriya Shrinate has criticised the Delhi High Court’s decision to suspend Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s sentence in the Unnao rape case, calling it a blow to justice.
Kuldeep Sengar was expelled from the BJP and disqualified as a member of the Assembly after the trial court convicted him.
Sengar has already been awarded life imprisonment for the rape of the young woman from Unnao, who was a minor at that time.

The Delhi court had pronounced its verdict of life imprisonment on December 20, 2019 and Sengar has been deemed disqualified from that date, it said. His Bangarmau seat in Unnao district has been declared vacant from that date, the notification said.
Sengar was convicted under the Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act for the offence of a public servant committing penetrative sexual assault against a child.
On Monday, the court had convicted Sengar for the rape of a woman in 2017 when she was a minor saying that the victim’s testimony was truthful and unblemished against a powerful person.
The case was shifted outside Uttar Pradesh after the victim had written a letter to the then Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi stating that she faced threats by Sengar.
