JDU President Nitish Kumar has nominated his close aide Shravan Kumar as the leader of the party’s legislative wing. The Assembly Secretariat issued a notification to this effect on Tuesday.
BJP leader Samrat Chaudhary took oath as the 24th Chief Minister of Bihar on Wednesday in a brief and low-profile ceremony held at Lok Bhavan, Patna. Along with him, Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary from the JD(U) quota were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers.
BJP’s Chief Minister-designate Samrat Choudhary has several strengths — his caste background, his administrative abilities, his age, and his closeness to key NDA ally Janata Dal (United)—that together worked in his favour as the party looked for a replacement for Nitish Kumar.
Tyagi, who served as the Chief Spokesperson and General Secretary of the JDU, has been with the party since its merger with the Samata Party on October 30, 2003.
BJP leaders Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari, along with Nitish Kumar’s confidant Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh, said in separate media interactions that the issue of chief ministership would be decided by the NDA legislature party after the elections.
Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar’s decision to introduce 30 fresh faces is seen as a strategic move to counter anti-incumbency. The party has also given ample opportunity to youth.
RJD Supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav, along with leaders of other smaller allies, are in Delhi to discuss seat allocation with the Congress leadership.
Among the three JD(U) leaders are former MP from Purnea Santosh Kushwaha, former MP Jagdish Sharma’s son Rahul Sharma, and JD(U) MP from Banka Girdhari Yadav’s son Chanakya Prakash.
Reacting to the announcement, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary urged voters to support the NDA once again, citing historic progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment under the current government.
